Abstraction IX, 1916
		Georgia O’Keeffe

The woman is smoke
or cloud. The hill, the mesa,
the butte of her,
the hair of her, the shoulder
and neck, the trouble
of her dreams, the tongue
of her, shadow and print
of her. One day,
they emptied the bowl
of light. One night
they filled the circle
of her longing
with the songs of birds,
the flight of her,
the soar of her,
the music of her shape.
